Murtaugh, Lorna D. (Latta), 92, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 in Newfane Rehab. & HCF. Born on February 10, 1921 in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of Harry W. and Hazel Fishbach Latta. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, James E. Murtaugh; brothers, Maurice Latta and J. Donald Latta of Lockport; sisters, Jean Wright of London, Ontario and Margaret Outerbridge of Miami, FL. Mother of Cheryl M. (Robert) Brown of Barker and Mary Jane (John M. II) Thurston of Lockport; grandmother of J. Scott Shulock of Lockport, Paul E. Shulock of Kansas City, MO, Kathleen S. (Philip) LaRoach of Las Vegas, NV and Bryan N. Thurston of Lockport; great grandmother of Micah H. Pemberton, Oliver T. and Miles H. LaRoach and Lindsey, Morgan, Haley, Kelsey, Michael, Garrett, Carter and MaKayla Brown. She also leaves her nephews, Peter B. Outerbridge of Miami, FL, and Donald, Douglas, Dennis and David Latta of Lockport. Lorna lived in many places in her life and settled in Lockport, marrying her husband and raising their family in Lockport for the past 75 years. She was a devoted wife and mother and was an accomplished artist, seamstress, landscaper and interior decorator. She learned to play the organ at 60 and enjoyed her music greatly. Lorna loved nature and created many beautiful gardens, built rock walls, terraces and rock gardens. She also loved animals and wildlife and had many pets throughout the years. She enjoyed her daughters’ friends and her home was a place where much love, laughter and fun was had by all who visited. She and her husband chaperoned the YWCA dances for over 10 years also lending their hand to the Y Teens whenever possible. Together with her husband, James, she developed Candlewood Heights in Lockport and lived there for a time, where she was involved with doing interior decorating for many Lockport homes. Lorna was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and NYS PTA. A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 3, 2013 at 10:00 AM at LANGE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 186 East Ave., Lockport. Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Niagara County SPCA. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.langefuneralhomeinc.com.
