James E. McCormick McCormick, James E. of Newfane, passed away on Sunday December 9, 2007 in Niagara Hospice House. Born on May 16, 1925 in Wilson, he was the son of George W. and Ercel Dailey McCormick. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a graduate of Ithaca College. He and his wife, Joanne Clare McCormick, were married in 1953 and lived in Middleport until 1991 when they moved to Newfane. While living in Middleport, the McCormicks owned the J&J Coffee Shoppe for 13 years and Mr. McCormick was a Village Trustee for several years. He was a well thought of Health and Physical Education Teacher at Royalton-Hartland where he coached track & field, basketball and was a swimming instructor. He was a good athlete himself. In the summers, he worked as a house painter and as a welder climbing steel. In 1972, he and a buddy took a motorcycle trip to Europe where they toured nine countries. He was proud of his family, always lending a hand to family and friends. He took pride in his home, always had a joke and was proud if his Irish heritage, having visited Ireland. He was a member of St. Bridget’s Church and was a member of the Town of Newfane Assessment Board. After his retirement in 1985, the McCormicks wintered in Juno, FL where they had many dear friends. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Jan (Dr. James) Ferington, Jill McCormick and Jamie (Marc) Murphy all of Lockport, sisters and brothers- in-law, Ronald and Evelyn Clare, Veldren and Donald Mosher all of Newfane and Mary Clare of N.C. and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Pearson. Friends may call on Wednesday 7-9 PM and Thursday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Lange Funeral Home, Inc. 186 East Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday, 10 AM at St. Bridget’s Church, Newfane. Interment in St. Charles Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Niagara Hospice House. Friends and family may post a message of sympathy at www.langefuneralhomeinc.com.
