Bates, Betty W. of Lockport, NY, passed away on Tuesday September 24, 2013 in Schenectady, NY. Born on January 6, 1924 in Ridgeway, NY, she was the daughter of Floyd and Marjorie Potter Woodroe. Mrs. Bates was as an Elementary School Teacher and taught at Charlotte Cross for 25 years retiring in 1979. She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Niagara Chapter of NYS Retired Teachers, Lockport College Women’s Club and the Family Relations Group. Predeceased by husbands, Robert E. Bates in 1988 and Crosby Steel, Sr. in 1961 and brother, Ross Woodroe, she is survived by her children, Crosby (Ruth) Steel, Jr., Susan Nelson, Debralyn (Thomas) Muscato, Randolph (Karen) Steel, Robert (Karen) Bates, Donna (Ron) Medlin and Judy (Barney) Raysor; 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and her brother, Milford Woodroe. Friends may call on Friday 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Lange Funeral Home, Inc., 186 East Ave., Lockport. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1:00 PM from Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 75 East Ave., Lockport. Interment in Cold Springs Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church or the Niagara County Historical Society. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.langefuneralhomeinc.com.
