Obituary of Adaline B. Schanzenbacher

Adaline “Addie” (Chesman) Schanzenbacher died peacefully at her home on May 15, 2014 at the age of 101. Addie was born in Troy, NY, on September 29, 1912. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Rebecka Chesman. Addie was the beloved wife of the late G. Roy Schanzenbacher. Addie was happily married for 51 years. She met her husband while they were both working at Western Union in Troy, NY and they moved to Roy’s hometown of Lockport to get married. She had a successful career as the life insurance manager at Lockport Savings Bank. Besides raising her children she enjoyed stamp collecting, bird watching, traveling the world, gardening and telling jokes. She lived next door to Outwater Park for the past 46 years and enjoyed the rose gardens and walking in the park. Never one to look or act her age, she walked two miles on her 100th Birthday while visiting her family in Virgina. Addie is survived by her brother Kenneth Chesman, children, George (Karen) Schanzenbacher and Marjorie (Arthur) Hilger; her grandchildren, Lisa (Britt) Vitalone, Amy (Jeffrey) Peters, Aaron (Nicole) Hilger, and Molly (Paul) Mitri; her greatgrandchildren, Benjamin, Jackson and Carter Peters, Emma, Alexander, and Sophie Hilger and Paul and Braden Mitri. She was predeceased by her husband G. Roy Schanzenbacher, sister, Cecily Silverstein, brothers Bernhard, Leon and Robert Chesman. Friends may call on Wednesday 4:00 – 6:00 PM at LANGE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 186 East Ave., Lockport where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM. Interment in Cold Springs Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Zonta Club of Lockport to help care for the gardens of Lockport, PO Box 389, Lockport, NY 14095.
