Obituary of Genevieve A. Scheibner

Scheibner, Genevieve A. of Lockport, passed away on Saturday December 30, 2006 in Heritage Manor. Born on April 17, 1916 in Elmer, PA, she was the daughter of Lee and Lucy Marvin Abbott. She married Gaylord “Ben” Scheibner on March 13, 1942 and they moved to Lockport in 1950. She received a Masters in Education from Buffalo State College and was a Learning Center Teacher at John Pound and then a consultant at Anna Merritt until she retired in 1977. She was the first President of the Upson PTA, life member of the Eastern Star in PA, a PEO, member of the New Century Club and active at Emmanuel United Methodist Church in the Deborah Circle, where she at one time was Superintendent of Sunday School and Past President of the United Methodist Women. While still at home, she enjoyed traveling, gardening sewing and reading. She was noted in town for doing book reviews. Predeceased by her husband, Gaylord “Ben” Scheibner, in 1989, she is survived by her children, Gayl (John) Foster of Lockport, and Dr. Benno (Barbara) Scheibner of TX, three grandchildren, Cassandra (Chris) Maldonado, Sarah (Michael) Viergutz and Melissa Foster, one great granddaughter, Camille Maldonado, 2 nieces and 1 nephew. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2:00 PM from Emmanuel United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church.
