Obituary of Kenneth D. Swan

Swan, Kenneth D. of Lockport, NY, passed away on Tuesday July 3, 2012 in Niagara Hospice House. Born on August 12, 1941 in Berwinsdale, PA, he was the son of John and Effie Davis Swan. He served as a Sergeant in the United States Army from 1963 - 1966, including two years in Europe. Ken was a Niagara County Sheriff Deputy from 1968 - 1970 and was the owner of Kenneth D. Swan Demolition & Excavation, Inc from 1973 to present. He attended Lockport Alliance Church nd was a member of the American Legion nd Lockport Masonic Lodge #73. Ken was a City Alderman from 1992 1993 and was the 38th Mayor of the City of Lockport from 1994 - 2000. During which time he fostered new construction and renovations, the renovation of tourist and recreational centerpieces, the increasing of community involvement and keeping health and safety issues a top priority. Most importantly, he was a family man whom loved to help people, hunt and fish. Ken and his wife, the former Virginia Colton, were married in 1970. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Gina (Jason Klein) Swan of E. Amherst, Rene Swan of Kentucky and Kenneth D. Swan, Jr. of Middleport; five grandchildren, Jonah and Emma Wisniewski, Olivia and Adam Klein and Grace Swan; one sister, Kathryn Lytle; two brothers, Harold (Naomi) and Robert (Margie) Swan; two sisters-in-law, Katherine Betty Swan and Margaret Swan; one brother-in-law, Robert Laing and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by the following brothers and sisters, Forest, Howard, Clair and Charles Swan, Grace Christy, Lois Laing and Eleanor Swan. Friends may call on Thursday 7-9 PM and Friday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at Lange Funeral Home, Inc., 186 East Ave., Lockport, NY. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM from Lockport Alliance Church, 555 Davison Road, Lockport, NY. Interment in Cold Springs Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Niagara Hospice, Inc.
