Obituary of Joanne C. McCormick

Joanne C. McCormick McCormick, Joanne C. of Newfane, passed away on Monday April 7, 2008 in Odd Fellow & Rebekah Health Care Facility. Born on August 24, 1928 in the Town of Porter, she was the daughter of the late Otto and Florence Dean Clare. She was a graduate of Newfane High School and received her New York State teaching certification from Buffalo State College. She and her late husband, James E. McCormick, were married in 1953 and lived in Middleport until 1991. The McCormicks owned J&J Coffee Shoppe for 13 years. Mrs. McCormick had a beauty shop in her home for many years and taught cosmetology at Genesee-Wyoming BOCES in Batavia. She loved music, played the piano, had leading roles in the Rotary musicals and enjoyed the Philharmonic. She was a gracious lady who was an accomplished seamstress, cook and decorator. She made a house a home. She visited France with her daughter in 1977 and 1998. After retiring, she and her husband wintered in Juno Beach, FL where they had many dear friends. Mr. McCormick passed away on December 9, 2007. She is survived by her daughters, Jan (Dr. James) Ferington, Jill McCormick and Jamie (Marc) Murphy all of Lockport, a brother, Ronald (Evelyn) Clare, a sister, Veldren (Donald) Mosher both of Newfane, two sisters-in-law, Mary Clare and Joyce Clare and Several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers and a sister, Robert, Donald, and Eugene Clare and Dolores Ramming. Friends may call on Wednesday 7-9 PM and Thursday, 2-4 & 7-9 PM at Lange Funeral Home, Inc. 186 East Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday, 10 AM at St. Bridgets Church, Newfane. Interment in St. Charles Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Buffalo Philharmonic or Niagara Hospice House.
