Obituary of Edward H. Derry

Derry, Edward H., born on January 13, 1928, went to eternal rest on September 4, 2013, at Briody Health Care Facility, Lockport after a long illness. Edward graduated from Medina High School in 1948. He received his certification as a pipefitter from Erie Community College. He began his employment with Harrison Radiator Division of General Motors Corp in 1949, was drafted and served in the U.S. Army from 1950 1951 in Korea during the Korean Conflict. Following the conflict, he returned to his employment at Harrisons, retiring in 1993 as a Maintenance Department Group Leader after 44 years of service. Edward enjoyed playing cards, square dancing, gardening and traveling. He and his wife, Judy, traveled to many places including Hawaii, Alaska, England, Scotland, Wales, the Caribbean Islands and many other destinations in the United States. They spent five winters after Eds retirement in Apache Junction, AZ. He belonged to several organizations during his life including the Lockport Senior Center, where he enjoyed playing pool and cards, the New York State Bluebird Society, the North American Bluebird Society, the Newfane Grand Squares Club, the Lockport Ski Club, the Harrison Mens Glee Club and the Christ Episcopal Church Choir. He was a member of Christ Church. Edward was a gentle, loving husband, father, brother and friend. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Judith; his children, Scott E. (Susan) Derry of Brockport, NY, Kimberly A. (Paul) Smith of Bloomfield Hills, MI, Kara J. Derry of Stroudsburg, PA and Matthew S. (Julie) Emslie of Fairbanks, AK; his grandchildren, Shane Derry, Kyle Derry, James Guisinger, Natalie Guisinger and newborn grandson, Wyatt Edward Emslie; siblings, Alexander (Phyllis), Charles (Dorothy) and Richard (Joyce) Derry and Angeline Ball, Louise Franchell and Dorothy (William) Ouzts and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday September 21, 2013 at 11:00 AM from Christ Episcopal Church, Rochester Rd. & Fieldcrest Dr. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice or the WNY Alzheimers Association.
