So sorry we can not be there at this time, as Gary has previously posted we both have a lot of great memories as we were beginning our journey as husband and wife. Being in the Air Force meant separations from our families, which were very difficult, but whenever we could we came back to Lockport to visit family and friends, and still do. The memories will always be there, the laughs, the cries, and the good byes. We will miss Vern, but he is finally at peace, no more pain, no more struggles, God Bless Him and his family!

My brother Vern was 14 years older than me. I do have some favorite memories of him while growing up in Lockport and then at 18, I joined the Air Force and moved away.
I remember sitting on my mom's lap at 5 years old, crying, as my brother went of to war. I remember him returning safely home.
I remember he would talk me into going out in very rough water at Olcott Beach, in our old wooden motor boat and have fun scaring me. He loved the water, but really!
I remember at age 9 traveling to Chicago with family, for his marriage to Kathy. I was the ring bearer.
I remember him and Kathy returning to Lockport to live, where Sue (my now wife) were courting and hung out with them during my High School years.
I remember him at my wedding to Sue, that he was the photographer that took the pictures with the lens cap on the camera!!
I remember that time and distance drew us apart, but we enjoyed visits with him the past few years. From what he went thru of late, he is now in a better place.

My wife Linda and I send our condolences to Vernon's family. We are sorry for your loss.
Although we never met, Vernon and I were Aikin third cousins. We both were great-great-grandsons of John Aikin (born about 1805, died about 1870) and John's wife Mary Elizabeth Wedell Aikin, who moved with most of their children from Dutchess County, NY to Niagara County, NY in the 1850s. I was born in Lockport in 1948 and grew up in Lockport with my parents and sister. My sister and her family continue to live in Lockport. My wife Linda and I now live in Cary, NC, adjacent to Raleigh.
My email address is gary.aikin@nc.rr.com

I have only had to men in my life that were ever worthy of calling Dad. You loved me from the start and have given me one of the best men in the world to love, Terry. I will always miss you, Dad. Thank you for loving me, accepting me and raising the wonderful man I am married too.
