Obituary of Frances H. Nelson-Hitzemann

Nelson-Hitzemann, Frances Helen, formerly of Wilson, NY, was called to her heavenly home on Friday, January 9, 2009. She was born in Lockport on October 31, 1930, the daughter of the late Richard and Emily (Disinger) Smith. Frances was named after two great aunts, Frances Richardson of Lockport, NY and Frances Smith of Plymouth, NH. She graduated from Lockport High School in 1948 and Buffalo State Teacher’s College in 1952. She started her teaching career as an elementary school teacher in Arcade, NY and continued in Center, Colorado and in Niagara County. She found great enjoyment in enriching the lives of young people through her membership at Cambria United Church of Christ as a Sunday School Teacher, by acting as a leader for the Niagara County Rock and Minerals 4-H club for 20 years and working with the Girl Scouts in Niagara County. She was also a member of the Major Benjamin Bosworth Daughters of the American Revolution and the Forestville Order of The Eastern Star Chapter #247. Frances also enjoyed traveling to Germany, rock collecting and working in her flower gardens with her husband. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Hans Hitzemann, two daughters, Carolyn (Ken) Cybulski of West Seneca and Betsy (John) Woodard of Norfolk, VA, two sons, James (Klondy) Nelson of Wichita, KS, and Mark Nelson of Newfane, NY, a step daughter, Beth (Horner “Chum”) Bowker of Forestville, and two step sons, Michael (Carol) Hitzemann of Oklahoma City, OK and Peter (Sue) Hitzemann of Winnsboro, TX. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Samuel, Joseph, and Steven Casalinuovo, Emily Woodard and Bryce and Parker Nelson. Friends may call at the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville, NY on Monday from 2-4 & 6-8PM where prayer services will be held Monday at 3:30PM, Reverend John D. Mears officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday 2–4 & 6-8PM at Lange Funeral Home Inc. 186 East Avenue, Lockport NY where prayer services will be held at 7:45PM. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 AM at Cambria United Church of Christ, Pastor Todd Blakely officiating. Interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery and Chapel, Lockport NY.
