Joyce E. Howe Obituary

Joyce E. Howe of Lockport, NY, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2020 at home. Born on September 4, 1934 in Hartland, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and June (Daumen) Strong. A lifelong resident of Lockport, Joyce graduated from LHS as Salutatorian and Magna cum laude from NYS College for Teachers at Buffalo. She taught in the Lockport school system until retirement in 1991. At various times throughout the years, she was an active member of Lockport College Women’s Club, Junior Service League and the Cornell Family Study Club as well as teaching Sunday school at First English Lutheran Church. She was always involved in activities with her children as needed during their school years.


Since retirement, Joyce continued her church work and volunteered at the Dale Association, Niagara Hospice and the Salvation Army. An accomplished seamstress and knitter, she also enjoyed gardening, reading and using up-to-date computer programs. Joyce traveled the world and enjoyed making scrapbook photo albums of her journeys as well as slide shows.


Predeceased by her husband, Donald E. Howe in 1994, Joyce is survived by her children, Laurie (Rick) Zeigler, Derek Howe and David (Kathy) Howe; grandchildren, Rebecka Howe, Donald Howe II, Michael Howe, Kevin Lawrence and Travis Lawrence; great grandson, Lincoln Howe; her brother, Larry (Lana) Strong and several nieces and nephews.


Friends may call on Tuesday Oct. 20th 2-4 & 6-8 PM at LANGE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 186 East Ave., Lockport. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10 AM. in First English Lutheran Church, 185 Locust St., Lockport. Interment in Cold Springs Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First English Lutheran Church, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Institute or Niagara Hospice, Inc. Condolences may be offered to the family at langefuneralhomeinc.com.
