Obituary of Irving L. Lennert, Sr.

Irving L. Lennert, Sr., of Lockport, NY, passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, in his sleep at home with his loving wife and loved ones nearby. Born on August 11, 1931, in Lockport, he was the son of the late Frank, Sr. and Margie (Redmond) Lennert. Irv married Helene Bitterman on August 29, 1953, and they shared 68 years together. He loved his family and friends and in later years, his Harley, and was still riding at 90 years old. Irv was a skilled tradesman welder at Harrison Radiator for 42 years, retiring in 1992. Always handy, he told stories of fixing the sewing machines at North Park’s Home Economic room as a teenager. There wasn’t much he couldn’t fix. He used his big heart and handyman skills to help so many people throughout the years. Helping old friends and making new ones. There was always a project to work on, a friend to help, a hand to lend. It wasn’t always work. There were many celebrations and good times with those he loved. Irv and Helene spent much of their retirement travelling the USA and the world by land, sea, and air. They enjoyed travelling by RV, wintered 25 years in Las Vegas, and later with family in Texas. He also enjoyed fishing, often going with his dear friend, Rick Fitzandolf and nephew, Richie. Surviving his wife, Helene; six children, Irving, Jr. (Jackie), William (Miriam), Deborah (Patrick) Conley, Chari (Steve) Himmelsbach, Donald (Thunlawan) and Melissa Bailey; 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; sisters-in-law, Fredia Palia, Stella Lennert and Catherine Chapman and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by siblings, George, Frank, Fred, Clinton, John, and Beverley Miller. The family will be present to receive friends on Friday, February 11th from 3-7 PM at the LANGE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 186 East Ave., Lockport. Funeral services will follow at 7 PM.
