Obituary of Gordon R. Langdon

Gordon R. Langdon of Lockport, NY, passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, in Niagara Hospice House. Born on November 27, 1934, in Lockport, he was the son of the late W. Ralph and Mildred (Heidenfeld) Langdon. He graduated from Lockport High School and attended University of Buffalo. From 1957 – 1959, Gordon served in the U.S. Army with the 4th Armored Division; stationed in Germany and on May 21, 1960, married the former Karen Kershaw, his wife of 62 years. He retired from the Cost Accounting Department of Harrison Radiator, Division of GM after 34 years.
Gordon was an active member of First English Lutheran Church where he was President and member of Church council, Communion Assistant, Reader, acolyte advisor, Sunday School and VBS Teacher, Property and Social Ministry Committee member, Cancel Choir group and Usher.
Involved in many community activities, he was Director of Brothers Keeper Outreach food pantry ministry, Red Cross whole blood, plasma, and platelet donor (a direct donor to grandson Jack during Jack’s treatment for bone cancer), tutor with Rainbow Readers at Gasport Elementary School, member of the Board of Directors and coach with Lockport Little League, Meal Ministry volunteer with Lockport Cares homeless shelter and an AARP Income Tax Preparer.
The many awards Gordon received include Salvation Army “Others” honoree, Dale Association Duncan Nixon Award, Rotary Club Paul Harris Award along with wife, Karen, Service to Youth Award from Lockport Youth Board, Scoutmaster of Troop I Lewiston Trail Council and the Girl Scout Shining Star recipient.
In addition to his wife Karen (Kershaw) Langdon, he is survived by three sons, Todd (Chika), Stephen (Sandra) and Ian (Jacquelyn); five grandchildren, Tristan, Michaela, Katie, Jack, and Brooke; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by siblings, Barbara A. Patterson, and Robert Langdon. Gordon thoroughly enjoyed involvement in and with his sons’ and grandchildren’s school and extra- curricular activities which included camping, golf, and the great outdoors.
All are invited to a Memorial Service on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at 11:00 AM at First English Lutheran Church, 185 Locust Street, Lockport. Memorials may be made to Niagara Hospice, Inc., or the church. Condolences may be offered to the family langefuneralhomeinc.com.
