My sister was a kind person, and a professional person who always advocated for her patients. She was also known for her sense of humor, which brings to mind one of my favorite memories of Karen. One day when I was maybe 10 or 11 I ambushed Karen with a squirt gun, and she gave me the evil eye. To be fair I'd loaded a squirt gun for her to make it a duel. She took it, and I took off running out the door and around and around the house, with Karen right behind me , both of us laughing like loons. The neighbors must have thought we'd flipped out. Back in the house up and down the stairs squirting away. Then we noticed we'd got the wallpaper wet upstairs, and thought we'd really be in the soup if it was stained. Luckily, with a little gentle toweling the wallpaper was fine, and we escaped the hangman's noose. There you have Karen Schanzenbacher, squirtgun warrior. Godspeed Sis.

Rest in peace Aunt Karen I have so many memories of the sleepovers at Little Robin RD, you always made us the best breakfast of what we called “apple skiva”, Danish pancakes shaped like little balls with warm syrup! The real way to spell this special Danish pancake is aebleskiver, I guess as small children apple skiva was close enough . You were always happy, singing or humming while you cooked in the kitchen or did household chores. I only remember you getting mad one time when we knocked the closet doors off the tracks playing a wild game of hide and seek lol. My thoughts and prayers are with the whole family. Love you Aunt Karen til we meet again….
