George E. Chapman of Lockport, NY, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2024, at Beechwood Continuing Care in Getzville, NY. Born on March 8, 1925, in Lockport, he was the son of the late Albert B. and Kathryn (Goodenough) Chapman.
After graduating from Lockport High School in 1943, he enlisted into the Army Air Force, serving in Italy with the 455th Bomber Group, as a Flight Engineer on the B24 Liberator. He attended Roosevelt Aviation School on Long Island in 1947. He also served with the US Air Force in the Korean War, as a crew chief for jet engine aircraft with the 5th Air Force, 4th Fighter Wing stationed at Kimpo Air Base in Korea.
Through the years, George worked at Friend Manufacturing, Bell Aero Systems, NYS Air National Guard and Harrison Radiator Division of General Motors. He retired from GM in 1987 as Product Designer.
He was a member of First English Lutheran Church, Masonic Red Jacket Lodge, the Scottish Rite Valley of Buffalo, and the Shriners Ismailia Lodge. He was also a member of the Lock City Glee Club, Timber Tones Chorus, Nature Coast Festival Singers of Florida, and Architectural Board of Timber Pines Association.
George was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, M. Eileen (Arthur) Chapman and three brothers, Albert B. Jr., John and Alan (Harry) Chapman. Surviving are his three children, Russell A. (Kathie) Chapman of Little Elm, TX, Randall G. (Suzanne “Sandy”) Chapman of Lockport, and Cheryll E. (Joseph) Loiars of Orange City, FL; nine grandchildren, Christopher Chapman, Brent (Caryl) Chapman, and Dr. Meredith (Kevin) Reiman, Nathan (Carly Cefaly) Loiars, Kimberly (Tyler Barnes) Loiars, Jillian (Giorgia Pozzan) Loiars, Matthew Loiars, Ian (Melanie) O’Neill, Daniel (Hannah) O’Neill; six great grandchildren, Connor, Morrison, Josephine, Emerie, Elaina, Ewan and Lily and many loved nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Friday, March 22nd from 3:00 – 5:00 PM at LANGE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 186 East Avenue, Lockport, NY where a funeral service will follow at 5:00 PM.
